Limpright and Mangos Back with Bossier-Shreveport

Leading Scorers Return to 'Bugs

BOSSIER CITY, LA – The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced the signings of forward Shawn Limpright and defenseman Simon Mangos for the 2010-11 season. Both players were major contributors for last year’s Mudbugs, with Limpright leading the team in scoring and Mangos finishing as the club’s top point-producing defenseman.

Limpright joins Travis Clayton and David Rutherford as the three forwards signed by Bossier-Shreveport so far this offseason, while Mangos becomes the first defender under contract for the coming year.

“Shawn and Simon were both crucial parts of the success we had as a team last year, and I’m thrilled that they’ll be with us again,” said Head Coach Scott Muscutt. “They are both extremely talented players who can help your hockey team in any situation on the ice, but they’re also phenomenal leaders who have the character and work ethic to help set the tone in the locker room.”

Limpright, 29, signed with the Mudbugs for his eighth pro season in 2009-10, establishing himself as a team leader and a force at both ends of the ice. His 35 assists and 53 points led the team last year, while he ranked third in goals (18) and penalty minutes (87).

The St. Adolphe, Manitoba native took over the ‘Bugs point lead for good late in the season with 18 points in a 13-game stretch. He then continued that success in the playoffs, totaling ten points (4g, 6a) in nine games before injuries forced him out of Games 6 and 7 of the Northern Conference Finals in Rapid City.

“The Mudbugs’ expectation is to win and nothing less and I love playing for a team with that mentality,” Limpright said. “I’m not out there playing for the money. I’m playing to win. I had fun last season and we had a great year, but it was a tough way to end it. Now we’ve got some unfinished business and I’m happy to see a lot of the core guys coming back.”

Mangos, 30, is coming off a stellar season in which he was a finalist for the CHL’s Most Outstanding Defenseman award. During his second year in Bossier-Shreveport, Mangos set new career highs with 33 assists and 45 points. He led the Mudbugs’ defensive corps in every offensive category and ranked among the league’s leading blueliners in goals, assists, points, and plus/minus rating.

The Cambridge, Ontario native was named CHL Player of the Week for the week of February 15 after racking up nine points (3g, 6a) during a span of four games. He also ranked among the league’s most prolific shootout artists for a second consecutive year, scoring on three of six attempts to maintain a 50% success rate during his Mudbugs career.

“I really like being a Mudbug,” said Mangos. “My family and I have enjoyed the past two seasons and I’m happy to be coming back this year. It’s a great organization in a great community with great fans, and we’ve got a terrific group of guys. I look forward to getting the season started and working toward winning a championship.”
