Rush Even Series with Game 4 Win

Rush Even Series at Two Games Apiece

Things are all even in the Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup Finals as the visiting Rapid City Rush come-from-behind to win Game 4 by a 4-2 final over the Allen Americans in the Allen Event Center.  The win assures the series will head back to Rapid City for a Game 6 on Tuesday night (May 4) at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Arena.

Game 5 will be on Saturday night in Allen, the final home game of the season for the expansion Americans.

Box Score

Allen led things off in the first period with a pair of power play goals.  The first came on a 5-on-3 with Bruce Graham finding Justin Bowers on the back door for an easy score at the 2:43 mark of the opening frame.  Just 29 seconds later, Graham would find the back of the net as he took a pass in the slot and got Rapid City goaltender Danny Battochio leaning the wrong way.  The goal for Bowers was his 11th in the playoffs and for Graham it was his 8th score.

The Rush would come roaring back in the second period outshooting the Americans 18-9 and scoring three times.  Derek LeBlanc started the scoring just shy of halfway point of the middle period.  The Rush would tie the score just after a 5-on-3 had expired with a power play goal from Brendon Hodge at the 13:12 mark.  Capping off the frame was a rush by Les Reaney that saw him come down the right wing and beat Allen goaltender Chris Whitley low on the glove side.

Allen gained some momentum in the third period with several scoring chances and an advantage of ice time in the offensive zone but the Rush’s second power play goal of the game, this time by Jon Pelle, stretched the lead and proved to be too much for the Americans.

Rapid City finished on top on the shot board as well with a 39-29 advantage.

Battochio made 27 saves rebounding nicely after being pulled in a Game 3 loss on Wednesday night.

Whitley took the loss but set three CHL records in the game (minutes played, saves and appearances in a single post-season).

Both teams scored twice on the PP with Allen going 2 for 6 and Rapid City 2 for 11.
