Mississippi's Dumont Voted CHL Performance of the Year

RiverKings Louis Dumont Wins CHL Performance of the Year

Four Third Period Goals in Comeback Win Voted Top Effort by Fans

(Tempe, Arizona) - The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Mississippi’s Louis Dumont has been voted the winner of the ‘CHL Performance of the Year’ based on fan voting conducted from March 30 – April 12 on www.centralhockeyleague.com.

The veteran RiverKings forward wins the award after an amazing four goal third period in a matter of just over five minutes on December 4 in a 6-3 win over the Colorado Eagles.  Mississippi trailed 3-2 with less than 12 minutes remaining in the game when the Calgary native caught fire.  At the 12:59 mark, Dumont struck for his first of the night tying the game.  Just over a minute and a half later he gained the lead for his team which was followed 1:26 later with his hat trick extending the Mississippi lead to 5-3.  With just under a minute and a half remaining in the game, Dumont capped off his miraculous period with his fourth goal of the night.

Dumont earns the award in the midst of a milestone year that saw him participate in his 1000th career pro game on November 20.  He ended the regular season with a point-per-game average earning 63 points (23-40=63) in his 63 games played.  The RiverKings also had a brief stint in the playoffs that ended in the third game of a best of three mini-series against Missouri.

The memorable night for Dumont earned 42% of the vote during the two-week poll finishing with 1,161 votes.  Coming in second was Bossier-Shreveport’s Simon Mangos whose two goals in an 11-round shootout win at Odessa on October 24 earned 574 votes.  In all, 2,758 votes were cast in the poll.

The fan poll began in 2008 with the two previous winners in the ‘CHL Performance of the Year’ being the Arizona Sundogs erasing a 5-0 deficit in the third period of a 7-6 overtime win versus the Rocky Mountain Rage in 2008 and Mudbugs veteran Travis Clayton breaking the CHL record for most games played (709) in 2009.  The Sundogs trailed 6-3 with 1:23 remaining before scoring three straight goals to end regulation and then eventually strike in overtime for the win (part of a nine-game win streak to end the season for the eventual CHL Champions).  For Clayton, he passed Joe Burton during the 2008-09 season becoming the CHL’s all-time games played leader.

Throughout the regular season, fans have been voting for the CHL Performance of the Week via www.centralhockeyleague.com with more than 100,000 fans casting votes.  Of the 23 weekly winners, six were chosen for the final CHL Performance of the Year ballot.
