Tulsa Pulls to Within a Point of a Playoff Spot
It was one that Tulsa had to have as they started out on their season-ending six-game road trip and they responded with a 4-3 win over the Amarillo Gorillas in an early start Kid’s Day Game at the Amarillo Civic Center.
The win pulls the Oilers to within a point of the Missouri Mavericks for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Northern Conference.
The Oilers got the scoring going in the first period building a 2-0 lead behind markers from Jake Riddle and Tyler Butler. Riddle has now struck in back-to-back games and has 17 goals on the season.
Amarillo’s David Nimmo would answer back before the end of the period with the first of two goals in the game for the former CHL Rookie of the Year giving him a team-leading 26 on the season.
But the momentum was stolen back by Tulsa for good when Luke Stauffacher scored on the power play less than a minute into the second period.
Anthony Battaglia also scored for Amarillo and Adam Bartholomay for Tulsa.
The Oilers outshot the Gorillas 50-40 in the game as Mike Brown stopped 46 shots but took the loss. Marco Emond made 37 saves earning the win for the Oilers.
Tulsa now heads out to Colorado for a pair of games this weekend with the Eagles.
