CHL Player Chat Joel Martin - Odessa Jackalopes In your opinion, who has the best fans? Besides Odessa! – Zac in Rapid City, SD The entire CHL is lucky as far as fans are concerned. Almost everywhere you go has good fans. Out of the places we've played so far this year I'd say Colorado's fans made it very fun to play there. Great season so far Joel. I know you had a couple of callups to the AHL, how much does the talent level differ? – Mark in Odessa, TX I think guy's in the American Hockey League are a little bigger and stronger. And the talent runs a little deeper. Does sharing goaltending duties push you to play even better? would you rather play more? – Mark in Lindsay, ONT I'm a very competative person. I think whether I'm playing a little or a lot I'm going to push myself to be the best I can. I don't care how much I play as long as our teams doing well. How easy is it to adjust to a new city when you first arrive? And during the off season how do you stay in shape for the upcoming season? – Nathan in Kalamazoo, MI I played in Odessa my first year pro so the adjustment coming here was fairly easy. Teammates usually make the adjustment alot easier as well. Go K Wings! What is the difference in your game and mind set this year as opposed to your last go around with Odessa? – Jason in Denver, CO Well my last go around in Odessa was my rookie year. So I think I've gained alot of experience in my last 6 years pro. I'm very lucky to be on a great team. My mind set every night is to give my team a chance to win. As the veteran goalie for the Jacks, what have you tried to teach Toivenen? What has he tried to teach you? – Jeremy in Midland, TX I just try to be a good example and work hard everyday. I think he's taught me to be a little more athletic in the net at times. Who is the biggest prankster on the Jackalopes. – Dylan in Midland, TX No one really takes on the prankster role themselves. Everyone kind of contributes equally in that area. What do the letters on the back of your helmet stand for? – Dusty in Odessa, TX Those are my family's intials Do you feel the Jackalopes defense is underrated since the offense gets all the credit? – Carl in Tyler, TX I definetly think they do. They do an amazing job in front of me and Juha every night. I think any success we have in net is due to our defense and our forwards committment to defense. |
