The reigning Oakley CHL Player of the Week, Chad Nehring, picked up right where he left off last week by scoring two goals, including the shootout game winner, in the Sundogs 3-2 road victory over the Quad City Mallards on Tuesday night.
Nehring scored the first goal of the game and then scored the only goal in the shootout in Arizona’s road win that pushed them to 2-1 on their three-game swing through Illinois (two in Bloomington and one in Moline).
Trailing 2-0, the Flock were able to battle back with goals from Mickey Lang and a late score from patrik Levesque to tie the game and earn a point.
Adam Russo, the former Quad City goalie, was outstanding in net making 31 saves including all five he faced in the shootout.
John Murray made 29 saves in the hard-luck loss for Quad City who now falls two points behind Arizona for the eighth and final spot in the standings (eight teams make the post-season).
Nehring’s strong night gives him nine goals in his last five games and gives him the lead in the CHL with 22 goals on the season.
