Mavs and Sundogs Pull Off Three Player Trade

The Missouri Mavericks and the Arizona Sundogs pulled off a big trade on Thursday with the Sundogs sending away the last piece to their 2008 CHL Championship in exchange for two players they hope will contribute immediately.

Heading to the Sundogs are forward Brian Bicek and defenseman Matt McCready and on his way to the Mavericks is forward/defenseman Kyle Hood, along with future considerations.

Trade Summary:

Mavericks Get:
F/D- Kyle Hood
Future Considerations

Sundogs Get:
F- Brian Bicek
D- Matt McCready

The Mavs are arguably the hottest team in the league winning five straight games and amazingly they have gotten hot through numerous injuries that have forwards Colt King, Riley Emmerson, Kellan Tochkin and Trevor Kell on the injured reserve.

Missouri’s loss though could soon be their gain as many of the injured are starting to get healthy and set to return but that means finding space for them is necessary.

Exit Bicek – the skilled, speedy forward became expendable with the depth the Mavericks have.  So far this season, Bicek is second on the team with 19 points (4-15=19) but his four goals in 21 games is well below the pace he set last season when he scored 33 goals in Evansville.

Missouri also parts with McCready who has just two assists in his last 13 games but who is someone the Mavs thought could provide some offense after scoring a goal with three helpers in 11 playoff games last season.  McCready has all the tools to become a top line CHL defenseman.

Both Bicek and McCready will be welcomed additions for the Sundogs who have slid to a 3-9-2 record over their last 14 contests and who have yet to find a way to steady the ship since NHL players Kyle Chipchura and David Schlemko left the team.

For the Mavs, Hood is a gritty experienced player who can play forward or defense and who is the lone remaining player from the Sundogs 2008 Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup Championship.  During Arizona’s run, Hood scored four goals with two assists and was a +9 in 16 games.

In his CHL career, Hood has played for no other team than the Sundogs dressing in 270 games and scoring 213 points (58-155=213).  He is also a gritty presence averaging more than 100 penalty minutes a year over the last four seasons.

This season, Hood has three goals and five assists in 17 games.

Ironically, the two teams face each other on Friday night at the Independence Events Center.
